Join the Sheriff in Honoring, Respecting and Remembering the Fallen Heros

Sheriff John E. Zaruba and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office would like to invite you to join us for a Police Officer Memorial Service that is being held on Monday May 14, 2012 to honor those who serve as law enforcement professionals and to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice – their lives.

The memorial service will be conducted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard at 11:30 am on Monday May 14th, 2012 at the Police and Fire Memorial located at the south end of the DuPage County Complex 501 N. County Farm Rd in Wheaton.

The Sheriff’s Office will be honoring two (2) of our own fallen heroes, who will be added to the DuPage County Police and Fire Memorial that is located on the grounds of the DuPage County Complex.  Chief Deputy Gordon Leonard and Deputy Ralph Manning Hoy both lost their lives while transporting a prisoner on September 27, 1929. We also have received confirmation they will be added to the Illinois Police Officers Memorial that is located in Springfield Illinois and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial located in Washington DC.

During the ceremony, the Honor Guard will post the colors as well as present a wreath at the memorial to honor the fallen heroes. Additionally, there will be a brief prayer and a moment of silence for reflection and remembrance.

We hope that you will be able to join us on this day to Honor, Respect, and Remember the law enforcement professionals who serve their communities every day.
