Three DGS Students Will be Honored in College Athletics Signing Day
South High School in Downers Grove will hold a Division I and II College Athletics Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 2, in room D180 at 9:15 a.m. at the school, located at 1436 Norfolk in Downers Grove.
During the ceremony, staff will introduce three special athletes. The community is invited to help recognize and honor the following students: Tori Franklin of Westmont will sign with Michigan State University, Keri Kujaw of Downers Grove will sign with Illinois State University and Lauren Rusk of Woodridge will sign with Eastern Illinois University.
Please join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of these students. Park in the visitor spaces outside the main entrance (door #1) and proceed to the front desk for directions to D180. Interviews with our athletes will take place following introductions. Please RSVP to the Athletic Office at the phone numbers above.
A brief biography of each student athlete follows.
Tori Franklin (Michigan State University) – Track and Field
Franklin is the reigning state champion and an all-American in the triple jump, and was also a member of the state third-place 4x400 meter relay team. She is a six-time state qualifier in track and field, and she holds the school and West Suburban Gold Conference record in the triple jump, as well as school records in the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.
Franklin is also a member of the varsity basketball team at South High.
Keri Kujawa (Illinois State University) – Soccer
Kujawa has been a starter on the varsity girls soccer team for four years. Through her junior year, she has amassed 46 goals and 8 assists. She has been a two-time West Suburban All Conference player. In 2010, she was selected to the Illinois Soccer Coaches Association All State Team. As a freshman, she scored the overtime winning goal to send the team to the final four of the 2008 IHSA State finals where they took fourth place.
Kujawa will attend Illinois State University to continue her soccer career and study business.
Lauren Rusk (Eastern Illinois University) – Soccer
Rusk has been a starter on the varsity girls soccer team for four years. Through her junior year, Rusk has amassed 20 goals and 8 assists, and she earned 2010 West Suburban All Conference honors. Rusk is a consistent score leader and one of the best all-around players in the program.
Rusk will attend Eastern Illinois University to continue her soccer career and study early education.
