A Day at the Races: A Great Escape

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby, the traditional kick off to the spring party season.

Ready for a mint julep, anyone? It's time to don your most stunning hats, ladies!  The Kentucky Derby will host its iconic race for the 137th year on Saturday, May 7. The derby, held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, is the first leg of the Triple Crown of racing for thoroughbred horses.

The Run for the Roses is steeped in tradition. It's an event of grandeur in Kentucky—attendees are dressed in their finest fashion while sipping cool mint juleps on Millionaire's Row.

But you don't have to be in Louisville to celebrate the occasion. Our own Arlington Park Race Track will be holding a fabulous Kentucky Derby party, with a variety of options from which to choose. While their red carpet Marquee tent event is already sold out, tickets are still available for general admission to the Park, as well as packages at the  International Room and the Million Room, which feature buffet, drinks, and plenty of fun.

Why not have a Kentucky Derby party of your own? Decorate your home with red roses, the official flower of the Kentucky Derby. Partygoers should dress up in the Derby tradition, with women wearing beautiful, large hats to compliment their sundresses.

Make a batch of Early Times Mint Juleps and enjoy great appetizers and celebrate the beginning of warm weather and parties!

Arlington Park Race Track is full of great events throughout the racing season.  On opening day, Friday, May 6, general admission is complimentary. Enjoy the Friday night Miller Lite Party in the Park featuring live bands and good food.  New this year is the Saturday Summer Bash with live music, food specials and lots of sunshine (we hope!).
