You know it would be helpful if the Hinsdale/CH Patch would provide a description of the suspects.

6 guys jumped the victim from behind and beat on him.... I don't think you're going to get much of a description.

Illinois the ONLY state that does not allow law abiding citizens to carry a firearm for legal self-defensive purposes!!!

Yeah, that would have been a big help when being jumped from behind. He would have had his gun stolen and possibly ended up shot. Brilliant!

Good point, Bob. Gun people always seem to forget that the element of surprise would always pretty much negate any advantage of carrying a gun.

Back in the land of reality -- the kid who got attacked was probably a teenager. Sounds like a great idea for teens to carry loaded guns on the very slight chance that they might get attacked while out on a walk.

That's always possible Don but I don't like his odds. I don't see how carrying will help you when you're jumped from behind, especially when you have headphones on and can't hear much until you are on the ground.

Bob - Maybe you don't think carrying a gun would help you, but why do you think it's your business what anyone else does? However, I would like to see you kick those six guys butts, or are you just into taking beatings? And, why do you think you or the state of Illinois knows better than the other 49 states? (in case you're an Obama supporter, that would be 56 other states)

Best to become aware of areas that could be a problem. We live in Darien and a large apartment complex near us would invite an attack if i walked thru it with an I-Pad. Sad commentary but alot of people in this economy are desperate and angry.

So Greg, everyone should do whatever they want? You might want to look up the definition of anarchy.

Try walking through Darien Community Park in the evening. That's why a squad car is there every night now. And as we all know, those are Willowbrook people taking over that end of the park.

Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown reported at the city council meeting last night that the police department has begun an "Enjoy the Parks" initiative, increasing patrols in local parks so "decent, hardworking folks" can use the parks for positive purposes.

Funny how 20 years ago we enjoyed Darien Community Park without any problems or having to have a police presence....I'm so confused, what's changed???

I spoke with a friend that works in law enforcement, fact is that a white kid was beat unconscious by six black kids. After beating him up they ran south towards the apartment buildings. Most of those apartments are section 8 housing. They beat this kid so bad that he was transported to a level 1 trauma center (Good Sam). Be safe out there, the suburbs are not immune to these problems.

As of now, no such information has been substantiated by the sheriff's office yet. Patch is following up with the sheriff today.
