Woodridge Gap Store Closes
The village was notified of the closure in December, according to village officials.
Woodridge's Gap has closed.
The village received notice of the store closing in December, according to Jack Knight, management analyst for the village.
As of at least last week, the windows of the shop were covered and a sign on the door directed customers to find another local Gap location.
The store was located in the Woodgrove Festival Shopping Center near 75th Street and Lemont Road, next to Starbucks.
The Los Angeles Times reported in October Gap would close 200 stores in North America by 2013.
"We've been in some malls for a really long time; in some instances the demographics may have changed, so it may not make sense for a Gap store brand to be there anymore," Spokeswoman Louise Callagy told the LA Times.
"The goal overall is to return the brand to health, and part of a heatlhy brand is a high-performing fleet (of stores)."
While Gap, Inc. is reducing its North American presence, the company, which includes Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy, is looking to expand overseas.
Gap plans to triple its number of stores in greater China to 45 by the end of 2012, according to the LA Times.
