Why Can't I Turn Left?

When I use the mailbox lane by Village Hall across from the post office, I am always puzzled by the traffic signs.

If I go through and drop off mail, I come to the end of the little service drive and the shortest way back out would be to turn left. I would stop at one stop sign at the end of the service drive, stop at another one a little further on, and then get out of there.

Why the insistence that I turn right? Am I supposed to turn right and then cut through the parking spaces in order to do a u-turn and get to the exit drive?

Or am I supposed to drive around the whole complex, past the library and village hall?

It seems like it's designed to increase traffic in the parking lots, especially by the library where kids are. I do not like driving through busy parking lots.

What's the purpose? It seems to have been carefully thought out, given the care given to posting the traffic signs.

I've often wondered the same thing, and then I cut through the police department parking lot to get back left!

I do the same thing, Turn Right then cut through the parking lot. You would think this would not be the best thing but I don't like driving past the library, on multiple occasions kids have come darting out of the library while the parent is busy on the phone or texting. You would think the less traffic past there the better.

Yes, I agree it makes your trip a little longer it as well puts kids in danger. i have no idea why you have to turn right there.

I often just turn left anyway. The signs are stupid.
Of course the village and post office could solve any issues by placing the mail boxes on the other side of the little road and make it one way the other direction.
