Working with Business

As your Mayor I will make sure the village works together with our business community to grow and expand our economic base. How?

Reinvestment. At the most recent goal-setting meeting held by the Mayor and Board of Trustees, I believe the figure quoted was about two million dollars available for reinvestment. We will look to put this money to work in one or more ways as quickly as possible. Some options may include the following:

  • Facade/signage improvements. A 50/50 program where the Village and business/landlord each contribute 50% towards the cost of improvements.

  • Low-cost loan program for businesses looking to expand/remodel their space, emphasizing projects that will add employees.

  • Marketing/branding program promoting existing Woodridge businesses/attracting new business.

  • Working even more closely with the Chamber of Commerce as another resource for our businesses.

All-Inclusive. All of the businesses throughout our community contribute to the well-being of Woodridge, not just a few in certain locations. The home rule sales tax has been collecting dollars for a number of years. I’d like to utilize some of those funds by developing programs to assist those areas that are aging. We want ALL of our businesses to be as successful as possible. Innovative. New. Different. I’d like to hear ideas as to how we reinvest this money for results. The only option that won’t be on the table is letting the money sit there. We’re going to put that money to work.

If you have any ideas you’d like to share regarding this topic please let me know. Thanks.

Evelyn -

I am not sure where you get your information from, but the Chamber of Commerce is NOT on the verge of collapse! You should definitely verify your sources PRIOR to posting such claims especially in a public forum! I am the current Chairwoman of the Chamber of Commerce and am pleased to inform you that our Chamber continues to support many local charities and community events - which help make Woodridge a great place to live AND do business! In the future should you need verification of any information regarding the Chamber of Commerce, please feel free to contact me directly at chamber@woodridgechamber.org. Thank You! Kandy Sladek, Woodridge Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairwoman

Evelyn, I am very proud of what the Chamber accomplished while I was part of the leadership, including serving as its Chairman from 2006 - 2009. Those accomplishments were not rumors. I'm not here to comment on rumors. But I do thank you for reading my posts.

Evelyn - which is not your REAL name by any means, i find it amazing you're spending so much time on Patch with incorrect information and trying to push buttons that are not even relevant. Please learn to research before you open your mouth and try to upset the other uninformed people in the community. If you want more information about the chamber - have you called Kandy Sladek -The current chairwoman of the board? I'm sure you have not. Why don't you start bashing the other contenders for not being involved with the Chamber of Commerce at all? Yes, Gina is an active member, but where are the other 2? Not even members. I believe the business community is the backbone of Woodridge, and Greg Abbott and Ferenc Vandor have not shown any support.
....hard to take you seriously when you can't even post your own name and are so badly misinformed about the current situation of Woodridge.
