DuPage Election Commission Chairman Resigns

J.P. “Rick” Carney of Wheaton resigned following a report criticizing the agency.

The chairman of the DuPage Election Commission has resigned, according to the Chicago Tribune.  J.P. “Rick” Carney of Wheaton submitted his resignation Friday. Carney has served on the three-person board since 2005.  Carney resigned the same day DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and 11 other board members sent him a letter urging him to step aside, according to the Trib.  His resignation follows a report criticizing the agency's disclosure, ethics and procurement policies, among other things, and the replacement of two commissioners who had been serving long after their terms had expired, according to the Trib.  Read more at the Chicago Tribune here.

Ann Romney & The American Mother: Mom Talk

Does the presidential hopeful's wife represent modern America?

It was pretty mild as far as political blunders go. After having read the entire transcript, I thought the statement was awkward, but not offensive. Of course, had I been Ann Romney, I may feel differently. Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen took a big swat at Ann Romney. Despite Ann's well-bankrolled lifestyle, she has five sons. So unless she had a battalion of nannies and staff, the woman must have worked very hard being a mom. There is no doubt that Rosen was wrong and stuck her foot in her mouth when she said Romney never worked a day in her life. The next sentences of Rosen's statement softened the blow. Rosen was making the point that Romney hasn't ever had an employer, she has never had to fight for wage equality, she has never had…

Durkin Takes Landslide Victory in 82nd District

The incumbent Republican representative defeated challenger Laura Reigle with 75 percent of the vote.

There will be a familiar face on the November ballot for the Illinois House’s 82nd District. Incumbent State Rep. Jim Durkin won the district’s Republican nomination with 75.4 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Laura Reigle. No one ran in the 82nd District Democratic primary, which means Durkin will be running unopposed in the general election, barring the appointment of a Democratic candidate. “We’ve got significant challenges ahead of us,” Durkin said Tuesday night. “I’m honored Republican voters in the 82nd District have confidence that I’m the best candidate to represent their interests in Springfield.” With the primary over, Durkin said the Illinois General Assembly now faces a month-and-a-half of tough discussions as they work…

Congrats to State Rep. Jim Durkin on his reelection to the Illinois House. Laura Reigle has been exposed as a fraud, liar and fake Conservative who has no right running as a Conservative. She is a Democrat masquerading as a conservative. Guess what Laura you may have fooled the Lemont Tea Party but you didn't fool anyone else. The Lemont Tea Party is a complete failure for supporting you and your…   more ›

Foster Handily Wins 11th District Nomination

The former congressman will face Rep. Judy Biggert in November for the right to represent the newly-drawn 11th District.

Former Congressman Bill Foster took a decisive step back toward Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, securing the Democratic nomination in the 11th Congressional District. Foster, who served the 14th District from 2008 to 2010, won the nomination in the newly-drawn 11th by a significant margin, besting attorney Juan Thomas and Orland Fire District President Jim Hickey. Unofficial totals show Foster with 11,990 votes across the district, more than twice the number pulled in by Thomas, his closest competitor. Foster joined the DuPage County Democrats at an election night party at Village Links in Glen Ellyn on Tuesday night. Taking the podium around 9 p.m., he declared victory, and set his sights on his November battle against 13th District Rep. …

Foster, please take a hint you got voted out because of your support for the Radical Health Care Bill. Why do you need to go back to Washington? As another insider trying to serve your own self interest?   more ›

Woodridge Voters Vote 'Yes' for Electrical Aggregation

54% of Woodridge voters voted in favor of pursuing an alternative energy supplier.

Woodridge was one of 17 communities in DuPage with a referendum question on the March 20 ballot asking voters to vote yes or no on electric aggregation. On Tuesday, the majority of voters said yes, allowing the Will County Governmental League to accept bids from ComEd competitors by bundling the electric loads of households in communities that passed the ballot measure. With 37/37 precincts reporting.  Similar referendums in Darien, Downers Grove and Lisle also passed.  A state law that went into effect Jan. 1, 2010, allows municipalities to aggregate their residents into one negotiating body with the goal of getting a bulk discount. ComEd currently supplies Woodridge’s electricity. The benefits to switching are cost savings for residents …

Sandack to Boyle: 'Thanks for Playing, You're Dismissed'

Check in with me while I update results, hang out with the Ron Sandack campaign and more.

10 p.m.  Ron Sandack, Republican candidate for the 81st House District race, told those assembled at Emmett'e Ale House that he "could have joined the hit parade" two weeks ago but chose not to.  The remark refers to election materials produced by the Debbie Boyle campaign.  "My opponent must think that attack pieces will do more to get her elected than espousing her own ideas and offering substance," Sandack wrote in an endorsement press release last week. "Thankfully the public has shown they prefer substance and boldness over a stealth campaign built on negativity alone." Sandack said it was the right decision.  "I'd rather win the right way in a tight race than win big being in the gutter, hanging out in the wrong place and not feeling…

UPDATED: Primary Election Results: 11th Congressional District

Three Democrats are vying for the nomination in the new 11th District. Check here for updated election results.

UPDATE: Bill Foster has declared victory in this race, and Juan Thomas, his closest competitor, said he will call to concede. Foster's victory speech at Village Links in Glen Ellyn took aim at Rep. Judy Biggert's voting record, and concerned the campaign he plans to wage against her. Story coming soon. The new 11th Congressional District has no incumbent. It includes the major cities of Aurora, Naperville and Joliet, and spans from Aurora in the west to Burr Ridge in the east, and as far south as Channahon. Three Democrats are vying for the nomination: former 14th District Congressman Bill Foster, Orland Fire Protection District President Jim Hickey, and attorney Juan Thomas. The winner will face 13th District Rep. Judy Biggert in November…
