Is Your Child's Walk to School Safe?

On National Walk/Bike to School Day, tell us what you think about the routes in Woodridge. Plus, more headlines that weren't in today's newsletter.

Oct. 9 is National Walk/Bike to School Day, a way to encourage alternative ways of getting to school and promote safety along the way.

There are 161 events going on throughout Illinois, and though none is listed in Woodridge on the event website, it begs the question, can your child walk to school safely?

I grew up in Western Springs, where there were plenty of sidewalks and train crossings to keep walks to school safe, and even then there were calls for more crossings at train tracks. Then I lived in New Lenox, and while some routes were safe there were other areas without any sidewalks, and I would often pass by kids leaving school who were just walking along the road.
