John L. Sipley School Parents Organize Tornado Relief Effort

Parents at John L. Sipley Elementary School in Woodridge organized a relief drive to assist the victims of Sunday’s tornadoes.  Kevin and Shannon Blazyk’s daughters were “so worried about the families” that it gave Shannon “the idea to ask for donations.” They approached Sipley Principal Donald Mrozik with the idea of a relief effort and, as owners of KB Logistics Management, Inc. offered both a truck and transport of donated items.  Mr. Mrozik sent an e-mail and letter to all Sipley families Monday morning notifying them of the project with collection through Wednesday morning.

The Blazyks contacted the American Red Cross and Salvation Army in Peoria to identify the greatest needs.  Items collected included water, paper towels, toiletries, hand sanitizer, wipes, gloves (for work and for warmth), socks, gently worn shoes, coats, garbage bags, and other everyday essentials. Volunteers sorted and packed the donated items and loaded the truck on Wednesday.

“This truly is a team effort.  I am proud and extremely appreciative of everyone who donated and assisted in this project. My family is blessed to be a part of a great, caring community,” said Kevin Blazyk.
