The Pirates of Willow Creek School Are Reading

students enjoyed a pirate-themed assembly celebrating students' achievements for the Accelerated Reader independent reading program Friday.

Music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" played and a pirate fire glowed as the students watched as Principal MaryAnn Sanfilipp pulled a giant treasure chest into the gym. The teachers followed, loading their treasure into the treasure chest.

Students who earned points at milestone levels were awarded raffle tickets for prizes such as pirate shirts, mugs and footballs. Some of these students even earned a pirate hat and pins for each 25 points earned.  Students who wore their hats to the assembly got a bracelet.

Teacher Sabrina Hector led the entire school in singing "Across the Sea" with different lyrics for each grade level.  She also led the sixth-grade guitarists in their Willow Creek "Yo Ho" chant.

Sanfilipp led the school in a rousing pirate song and announced that if they earn more Accelerated Reader points this year than they earned last year, the students could make her "walk the plank." Keep an eye on the Willow Creek "ARrrrrrrgh Point-o-Meter" to see the students' progress.
