Q&A with a December Library Artist

Fred Drury, one of the artists featured this month, shares his advice for artists and what types of photographs you'll find on display.

This December, the is featuring a photography exhibit by the local group, Creative Digital Imagers. More than 100 photographs can be viewed in the lobby of the library.

Member of the group Fred Drury, whose award-winning art work has been seen at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium and who teachers art at the College of DuPage and the DuPage Art League, answered our questions about the exhibit.

Drury: Creative Digital Imagers, or CDI, was formed about 5 years ago and has a small membership of active photographers who live in the western suburbs. The objective of the club is to share digital photo methods and techniques and to collectively stay up-to-date on this rapidly changing field.

Drury: I think the members learn and are challenged by one another.  We're all somewhat competitive, and the combination of shared work and individual presentations at our meetings encourages continuous improvement.

Patch: What type of photographs is featured this month?

Drury: They are varied in size, subject and method of presentation. Subjects include nature, portraits, both landscapes and cityscapes. Presentation methods include canvas as well as photo prints. Framed prints are on display and there are mounted prints available in a couple of bins.

Patch: Why should people come see the exhibit?

Drury: The exhibit is a great opportunity to pick up a framed image at a price less than $100.

Patch: What brief advice do you have for aspiring photographers?

Drury: Be willing to learn, be open-minded and most of all be persistent.

Be sure to check out the free exhibit in Woodridge Public Library's lobby for the rest of December.
