One thing that I haven't liked since Patch redesigned the site a while ago is how stuff pops up on the front page of your community site. I mean it would be different if there was some comments from the local HD in Orland Park or Frankfort about how many employees would be hired locally, but otherwise this is just a cut and past of the story that came over the news wire yesterday.

Lots of part time jobs...thanks Obamacare!

YAYYY! More $10 an hour jobs that will make govt employees want to quit their $100K a year jobs
jim February 13, 2014 at 07:09 PM
Have to get over and apply. Take one of those jobs
Joe Kocur February 13, 2014 at 08:32 PM
Mike hit it on the head! So hurry up and go get your part time job. 20 hrs a week at $10 an hour do you can afford your $300 a month Obama care. Get the premium plan people so you can cover the welfare parasites. Thanks again Barry you idiot
Abigail Dash February 13, 2014 at 11:05 PM
Mike and Joe Kocur you guys are dumb as much as people like you like to blame everything on Obamacare little do you know is that Home Depot has always hired alot of part time employees just like other retail stores hire a huge amount of part time employees during the holidays. This is no different stop blaming Obamacare when you obviously don't understand it because if you did understand it you would be mad at the insurance companies not the affordable care act. Get a clue retail stores have been hiring thousands of part timers during peak seasons long before President Obama.

Abigail just admit it you want the government to take care of you give you food stamps and housing so enjoy your part time job and your Medicare
Joe Kocur February 14, 2014 at 08:28 AM
Abigail- my liberal friend. You liberals blame everybody else when something fails. Not one good thing is being said about barrycare. Even the libtards are starting to admit it but have their hands out for more freebies. You must be ultra liberal! Wake up you idiot.
Abigail Dash February 14, 2014 at 09:03 AM
Obviously mark and Joe Kocur are a little slow and missed my entire point. No I'm not ultra liberal but I do at least understand the affordable care act. All I was saying is this article about Home Depot hiring a large amount of people during the spring peak busy season most of which are part time has absolutely nothing to do with Obamacare because it is something home depot as well as during Christmas time other retail stores have already been doing for years. Yes I'm liberal on certain issues and more conservative on others but this article has nothing to do with that or obamacare, or being a liberal or conservative, or being democrat or republican. republican,
Mike February 14, 2014 at 09:09 AM
Abigail, you do realize that the ACA (aka Obamacare) penalizes employers that hire full-time employees, right?
jim February 14, 2014 at 09:30 AM
Mike Abigail is correct the Home Improvement Stores hire lots of Part Time Employees every Spring.

Only in America can an American company get blasted for hiring 80,000 people. Yes, sure, many of these jobs might not be suitable to raise a family and etc, but most part time jobs are just that... part time! If you don't want a part time job, take advantage of the hours outside of your part time schedule, get your a$$ back in college and get training in a relevant career where you can get a full time job with health care benefits and avoid the dreaded Obamacare you are b#tching about...
Mike February 14, 2014 at 10:04 AM
I'm not blaming Home Depot - they're just trying to do what's best for the company in a country that has one foot in capitalism and the other in socialism.
Phaedrus Pirsig February 14, 2014 at 10:08 AM
Yes, stores hired part-time work before Ocare, but the point that Ocare will create MORE part-time work than usual is valid. Employer's will have to increase their costs to pay for employee healthcare if the employee is full time. That's the facts, you either argue it's a good thing or not. I tend to think if you need to earn money it's a bad thing. If you have an aspiration to become a basket weaver or street mime it could be good. The more this law shows it's destructive nature to Progressives the more angry they become at their cognitive dissonance. Give yourselves a break and quit defending bad policy.

IgnorantA, you are living up to your name... Home Depot put many many many paint stores and hardware stores out of business. There were full time jobs at those places which closed. There were business owners who controlled their own destiny. Bottom Line: More employees and fewer business owners is not a good thing... and LOL at the thought that college is the quick fix solution. Hint: there are quite a few college educated people working at Home Depot.

Home Depot serves a purpose.....just keep in mind what that purpose is.
CHISEL February 15, 2014 at 10:32 AM
The 95th and Pulaski store should fire everyone and start over.
mark February 15, 2014 at 11:51 AM
Abigail how do you understand the affordable care act when the government doesn't even understand it did you write it admitted it you want the government to take care of you
jim February 15, 2014 at 10:07 PM
Abigail should discuss the ACA bill with Nancy Pelosi last I heard she still doesn't know whats in it. Perhaps Abigail could give here a clue
