Opening the salon was “really scary at first,” Robertson said, but has been a “really good challenge.”

“I like doing the marketing side of it,” she said. “It uses a different side of our passion. It’s definitely a lot more work, but I get to see more of where my efforts go.”

Her mom is the perfect business partner, Robertson said.

“She’s my mom,” she said. “We have the same common goal and the same interest of this being the best place it possibly can. We have two different viewpoints sometimes but you know you can rely on each other no matter what because she’ll always have my back.”

In addition to Sandy and Samantha, there’s another mother-daughter pair who work at Glimmer. Two sisters and two cousins work at Glimmer, as well.

With so many family members at Glimmer, the staff want their clients to feel part of the family, too.

“Our goal is to make the client feel special by making the experience the best it can possibly be,” Robertson said. “Like they are our family.”

Glimmer offers a spa-like experience to its clients, Sandy Robertson said. “We want to add a little bit of glimmer in someone’s day,” she said.

The best part about their jobs is being a positive aspect in someone’s day.

“If someone is having a bad day, they can come in here and feel rejuvenated,” Sandy Roberston said.

Their clients keep them going.

“You get to be a part of someone’s wedding, or communion, these big life events,” Samantha Roberston said. “We want people to know how special we feel that they let us into that.”

Client review:

I frequent Glimmer Salon because of the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the spa experience while there, and of course, what my hair looks like after going!  I highly recommend their salon to others, and I do just that whenever I get compliments on my hair!  I love my hair!!!  I adore the fact that it is owned and operated by a mother, Sandy, and her daughter, Samantha, who work so well together.  That certainly adds to a family type feel, and I believe adds a dimension to their successful venture!!
