Woodridge's Foreclosure Trends Mirror Downers Grove, Bolingbrook

See how the number of foreclosures in Woodridge from 2007-2010 compares with surrounding communities.

The number of foreclosure filings in and its surrounding communities fell in 2011, according to the Woodstock Institute

That's the first time numbers declined since at least 2007, the earliest year posted on the non-profit's website.

Filings in Woodridge jumped 81 percent from 2007 to 2008, levelled off from 2008 to 2009 and then jumped 37 percent from 2009 to 2010.

Filings then fell 26 percent between the first half of 2010 and the first half of 2011.

Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle and Naperville all saw increases from 2007 to 2010 and a decrease in 2011. While Darien, Lisle and Naperville saw a steady increase, listings in Bolingbrook and Downers Grove also plateaued between 2008 and 2009.

Foreclosure filings were down in 2011 across the country, according to CNN Money.

Unfortunately, the decline in filings might not mean a drop in the number of foreclosures.

Much of the drop in foreclosure filings is due to processing delays, Brandon Moore, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac, told CNN Money.

Moore expects foreclosure activity to rise over 2011 levels but not surpass the number of filings in 2010.
