All-Village Garage Sale Marks 18th Anniversary

The rain didn't stop shoppers from searching for hidden treasures at Echo Point Park last Saturday.

Despite the dreary weather, Woodridge's All-Village Garage Sale marked its 18th anniversary last Saturday.

The sale, organized by the , is a yearly event where both residents and non-residents can register to sell unwanted belongings and hidden treasures.

Considering the economy, this was the perfect opportunity to make a little extra money.

"Everyone is looking for a creative way to make some extra cash," said Vanessa Madden, Woodridge Park District's Recreation Supervisor.

"This is a great way to sell those unwanted items and make a chunk of change while doing it. We certainly draw a great crowd of shoppers every year."

Sixty-one people registered this year, a number similar to years past, Madden said. The event is able to accommodate up to 80 vendors.

Every year, the event takes place on the first Saturday in August in . Madden said there's always "something for everyone," with common items sold including kids and adult clothing, toys, books, fishing equipment, tools, fashionable accessories, housewares and Tastefully Simple products.

Vendors pay a registration fee based on how much space they want to use but get to keep all of their proceeds.

"The vendors are happy because they are clearing their house of unwanted or unused items, and the shoppers are ecstatic to find hidden treasures for a low price," Madden said.

"It’s a win-win for everyone.  People look forward to this event every year and have a lot of fun shopping."

The main event took place on Echo Point Park's beautiful, shaded trail, but driving down Woodridge Drive, there was a handful of other sales not planned by the park district. Relay for Life coordinated the concessions throughout the day.

With another successful sale under their belts, the process isn't quite over for the park district. They are now evaluating the event by asking participating vendors for comments and suggestions. That feedback will determine the changes, if any, will be made for next year's anticipated event.
