2. Garden Walk Fundraiser Supports the Homeless (Saturday)

Organized by the Downers Grove United Methodist Church, this fifth annual event "gives you an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful gardens in the area," according to the church's website.

All proceeds benefit the DGFUMC Bridge Board in providing transitional housing and mentoring for homeless families.

Sunday's event starts at 8 a.m. and includes pre-golf snacks, post-golf lunch and an 18-hole stroke play event. Cost is $125.

Register with the Woodridge Park District for this event (call 630-353-3344), which will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each player will play three rounds of nine holes. Water will be provided and lunch is offered for a cost.

Walk along with Bilbo Baggins and the rest of the Middle Earth crew with The Hobbit “Theatre-Hike!” at the Morton Arboretum. Regular hikes are on Saturdays at 1 p.m. and low-impact hikes (suitable for stroller, walkers and walkers) are on Sundays at 1 p.m.
