There are still 600 ComEd customers without power in Woodridge, according to a release by the village.

ComEd anticipates 90 percent of restoration in its south region, which includes Woodridge, by midnight Thursday, the release said.

Ninety-nine percent of restoration is expected by midnight Saturday.

While power is restored, customers can experience 30-60 minute outages.

According to the release, "the village urges customers to examine their risers (the point in which electric service enters the home) for damage, as ComEd will not make those repairs when they are repairing downed services.

More information on the parts of the service drop that are the customer's responsibility can be found here. If customers are in need of making a repair, they should check with the Village's Community Development at (630) 719-4750 to determine if the extent of the damage warrants obtaining a permit."

Larry Pebelske was in the basement when a pine tree in his yard was uprooted during Monday's storm. (see photo on right)

The tree blocked one full lane of traffic on Janes Avenue, Pebelske said. While village staff has moved the tree off the road, the carnage still remains across the sidewalk along Janes.

Pebelske said he had just returned from vacation and was tending to things inside. He didn't hear the tree fall and only discovered it after he came outside to talk to neighbors.

He's lived in the home 24 years. This is the second tree he's lost, he said, during that time.

One man Pebelske talked to said that within about 25 seconds, he witnessed the tree falling, a basketball pole across the street snapping and landing on a parked car and power lines coming in contact with a metal fence.

You can see photos of the snapped basketball pole (and more!) in our photo gallery to the right.

Pebelske's tree garnered much attention from passing cars, but it wasn't the only very visible sign of damage left from Monday's storm.

Large branches littered dozens of yards. At one home, a large branch crashed onto a garage roof.

Trees that were blocking roads, such as the one on Greene Road and the branch at Westview Lane and Forest Glen Parkway, have been cleared.

Power remains out for 576,000 customers in the Chicago area, according to the Chicago Tribune. About 87, 000 of those customers are south of the city.

ComEd is still reporting that 10,000+ customers are without power in the Bolingbrook region. Woodridge is included in the Bolingbrook region.

Is your power out? Tell us in the comments.

  3. Tree down in road on Greene Road.
  4. Traffic light out at Hobson Road and Double Eagle Drive.

Monday, 9:50 a.m.

According to Jack Knight, management analyst for the village, there have been reports of a county traffic light flashing on 75th Street and downed tree branches throughout the village.

The village is working to clear the branches from the roads, Knight said.
