Work to install the materials started last Tuesday, according to superintendent of planning and development Jenny Knitter.

Woodridge Park District officials decided in June to add the barriers after some parents expressed concern their children were wandering away from the area and near the busy intersection.

The contractors for the project have had a hard time receiving the materials, according to superintendent of planning and development Jenny Knitter.

That, in turn, delayed the project.

Located along Hobson Road near Route 53, Hobson Corner Park’s most famous attraction is its splash pad. When someone approaches, water shoots from fountains in the ground. The pad itself is spongey, making it safe for little ones to splash around and play. The splash pad is a popular warm weather destination for Woodrige's kids.

“Some kids are wandering away from the spray pad and going to the corner of Hobson Road and Woodridge Drive,” Woodridge Park District Executive Director Mike Adams told Board members at the June 14 meeting.

“There wasn’t a huge amount of people with concerns but (some parents) asked us to come up with a solution so we went back to the drawing board.”

Park officials will spend about $6,700 to continue the ornamental fencing at the corner of Hobson Road and Woodridge Drive.

Park Board President Fred Hohnke said the price tag seemed a little high.

Adams said the extra fencing will give parents peace of mind.

“It’s a small amount to spend to make sure nothing happens there,” he said.
