The most romantic day of the year - depending on who you ask - is here. Check out the Valentine's Day stats below to see how you stack up:
- One billion: The number of estimated Valentine’s Day cards sent every year according to the Greeting Card Association. This is second only to Christmas when 2.6 billion cards are sent.
- 8 billion: The amount of Sweethearts Conversation Hearts manufactured each year for Valentine’s Day. That’s about 100,000 pounds a day.
- 650 million: The number of Valentine’s Day cards children exchange with classmates, teachers and family.
- $116.21: The amount the average person will spend on traditional Valentine’s Day merchandise in 2011.
- $15.7 billion: Estimated amount that will be spent this year on Valentine’s Day merchandise.
- $5.04: How much the average consumer will spend on their pets for Valentine’s Day.
- $3.5 billion: The amount of money consumers will spend on bling and baubles for their loved ones. Another $1.7 billion will be spent on flowers and $1.5 billion on candy.
- 73: Percentage of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day that are men.
- 15: Percentage of U.S. women who send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day.
- 75: Percentage of chocolate purchases made by men during the few days leading up to Valentine's Day. During the year, women make 75% of all chocolate purchases.
- 51: Percent of moms reporting they would be angry if their significant other forgot Valentine's Day.
- 53: Percentage of American men and women who believe that women should not initiate a first kiss.
- 1 in 10: Number of Americans who would end a relationship if their partner's kissing skills weren't up to par.
- 91: Percentage of men who give flowers to their significant other on Valentine's Day to show their love.
- 16: Percentage of men who give flowers on Valentine's Day to "stay out of the doghouse."
- 189 million: Number of roses are sold in the U.S. on Valentine's Day
