Woodridge 4-H'er Takes Second in County Fair

Cady Murphy earned the Grand Champion Reserve ribbon for her Textiles I project.

An 8-year-old 4-H'er was named Grand Champion Reserve at the DuPage County Fair last week for her sewing project.

It was the first time Cady Murphy, of Woodridge, competed in the 4-H competition.

Murphy is one of the seven members of the Woodridge Voyagers 4-H club, which was started last year by her parents, Brian and Angel Murphy.

Projects named top in their category move on the Illinois State Fair. However, you have to be at least 10 to go to state, Murphy did not qualify.

4-H, if you’re not familiar, is a youth development organization that emphasizes leadership, citizenship and learning by doing.

4-H community clubs meet throughout the year as students research and complete projects in more than 150 categories, from aerospace to child development to music and animals. You can show off a garment you sewed, a study on water quality or a pie you baked.

These projects are presented and judged at the county fair.
