Woodridge Jubilee: A Brief History

Festival kicks off for 29th time Thursday

After having a beautiful town filled with friendly people, it only makes sense the next step would be a community-wide event to celebrate it.

That's why in 1983, the village of Woodridge and the Woodridge Park District teamed up to create the Woodridge Jubilee.

Despite some years with extreme heat and rain, the fest has literally weathered the storm. Even during years of a rough economy, the celebration still thrived.

"The staff organizing the festival has been very resourceful, and we try to use equipment and supplies from last year," said Julie Rhodes, assistant superintendent of recreation for the village of Woodridge.

The fest continues to take place at it's originial location at the corner of Center Drive and Woodridge Drive.

Although bands, entertainment and food may change year to year, the time that the staff goes into selecting those venues does not. The staff visits other fests and summer concerts to hear potential bands for the Jubilee.

From 2004 to 2006, the fest was briefly moved to July, but when attendance dropped, the date was moved back to June where it still takes place.

Rhodes' expects this year's celebration to continue to be a wonderful family event with great entertainment as it has been for the last 28 years.
