Housing Options for Older Homeowners

Keeping Older People in their own homes

Most people want to stay in their homes for as long as possible. As time passes and the responsibilities of homeownership mount, it becomes increasingly difficult. There are many options for older homeowners.

A discussion about housing options available to older persons in our community is presented on the Vintage Times, a local cable television program for senior citizens. Representatives from three agencies discuss housing options such as in-home care and new housing arrangements.

“It is helpful to take time and plan ahead so we can make an informed decision. Consider things such as your health, finances, upkeep of your home, socialization and remaining in your community near family and friends," said Mary Ellen Schaeffer, manager of Community Services Du Page County Senior Services.
