Trick-or-treating, bounce house, magician, face painting, balloon animals, cotton candy, popcorn and apple cider. Businesses you can trick or treat at will have a sign in the window.

Get spooked in the Hawthorne Hill Woods. Non-profit groups and Woodridge organizations set up haunted scenes for an afternoon and evening performances. 

It's $7 to attend the evening session, which is offered both Friday and Saturday 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On Saturday only, there is an afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. for the cost of $5.

Costume Contest, Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove, Saturday, 9 a.m., free

Judging for the costume contest begis at 9:45. There are also prizes and a free screening of Mr. Popper's Penguins at 11 a.m.

Halloween Hoedown, Lemont (near the Metra Station), Saturday, 1 p.m., free

Costume contest, parade led by the Haunted Squad Car, trick-or-treating and prizes.

Morton Arboretum's "Night of the Living Dead Theatre", Lisle, Saturday, 3 p.m., $13

For children 13 and up, join for a theatre-hike of "Night of the Living Dead" while walking two miles.

Trunk or Treat, Lemont (at the Lemont Police Station), Sunday, 1.p.m, free

Come view the decorated vehicles in the parking lot while members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church hand out candy.
