Trustee Susan Burtnette passed away on Sunday just two weeks after winning election to the Board of the Village for which she had such a great passion.

Woodridge trustee-elect Susan Burtnette died on Sunday morning from lung cancer, two weeks after being narrowly elected to the Village Board, the Suburban Life reports.

"Woodridge was a very big part of her heart and soul," Burtnette's son Brad told the paper, explaining that involvement in Woodridge government was one of her life goals. "She was extremely dedicated to the community and her church."

According to the paper, Burtnette, who worked for Edward Jones, suffered a stroke two days before the April 9 election, but was aware that she had accomplished her dream of winning a seat.
