Police: Downers Grove Teen Drove Drunk Into Woodridge Home

Police said Ryan Kujawa struck a vehicle, garage, traffic sign, street sign and two trees before overturning his car at 75th Street and Janes Avenue Dec. 21.

A Downers Grove teen was charged with a DUI after driving into a parked car, a home and more before rolling over the car late last month in Woodridge, police said. 

Ryan Kujawa, 18, of the 1200 block of Arnold Court in Downers Grove, was charged Dec. 27 with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to give information after striking an unattended vehicle, following traffic incidents that occurred in Woodridge the evening of Friday, Dec. 21.

According to Woodridge police, Kujawa was driving a 2008 Nissan on Friday, Dec. 21, when at approximately 11:10 p.m., he hit a parked car in the 6600 block of Oak Tree Trail in Woodridge, then hit the garage at the home.

Police reports indicate Kujawa continued eastbound on Oak Tree Trail, drove up over a curb on eastbound 75th Street, turned south on Westview Lane, then eastbound on Forest Glen Parkway. The Nissan then traveled northbound on Larchwood Lane, across the eastbound Lanes of 75th Street and up onto the grass, where Kujawa drove on the median, hitting a traffic sign, street sign and two trees. 

Kujawa’s vehicle ultimately overturned while entering the eastbound lanes of 75th Street at Janes Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m., police said.

The Lisle/Woodridge Fire Department transported Kujawa to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for treatment.

Woodridge Police proceeded to obtain warrants and complaints, charging Kujawa Dec. 27 with DUI, five counts of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and four counts of failure to give information after striking an unattended vehicle and property.

Kujawa surrendered himself to Woodridge Police on Dec. 27.
