First Female Police Chief Appointed in Woodridge

Deputy Chief Gina Grady has served all 27 years of her career with the Woodridge Police Department.

The Village of Woodridge will appoint its first female police chief Thursday night at the Village Board meeting.

Deputy Chief Gina Grady will be sworn in as chief after spending her entire career with the Woodridge Police Department.

“We are very fortunate to have someone of Gina’s talent as our new Chief of Police,” Mayor Gina Cunningham said. “We look forward to her leadership of the department and the continued success of the Woodridge Police Department.”

According to the Woodridge police Facebook page, Grady was appointed as patrol officer to the department in June 1986, then sergeant in February 1998. She was promoted to Deputy Chief in June 2005.

"She brings a wealth of police experience, a proactive and community focused approach and she is tremendously respected within the department and by all employees of the village," the message stated.

Grady has been serving as Acting Chief since Chief Ken Boehm retired at the end of August

According to the village Board, an internal recruitment process was employed and a community panel unanimously endorsed Grady for the position.
