Former DuPage Co. Woman Sentenced for Stabbing Son, 3

A 30-year-old former Addison woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for allegations that she stabbed her 3-year-old son in the neck, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office press release.

Sameera Samreen, 30, formerly of Addison, entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of aggravated battery on Feb. 6 and was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison, which she will be required to serve 85 percent of before becoming eligible for parole, according to the news release.

Samreen is accused of stabbing her son in the neck about 8:05 p.m. on March 31 with a large kitchen knife.

The attack occurred at Samreen’s home located at 900 N. Rohlwing Road in Addison. Samreen originally claimed the boy suffered the injuries when two masked men entered the apartment and attacked Samreen and her son.

An investigation into the attack revealed Samreen had stabbed her son after she had cut her own throat with the knife, prosecutors said. The boy has since recovered from his injuries.

“Thankfully, the boy has survived his injures. Regardless of what was going on in Mrs. Samreen’s life at the time, she had no right to inflict such extreme physical and emotional pain on a three-year-old boy," said DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin.
