Man, 27, Dies of Injuries from Glen Ellyn Apartment Fire

Smoke was reported coming from a third-floor apartment about 5:43 a.m. Friday at 503 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn.

A 27-year-old Glen Ellyn man died of injuries sustained in a fire Friday morning in a Glen Ellyn apartment, according to the Daily Herald. 

Abdullah Rantissi was taken to Loyola University Medical Center's burn unit and was pronounced dead Saturday morning, according to the article.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A fire damaged a three-story building Friday morning in Glen Ellyn that houses businesses on its first floor and apartments on its second and third floors, acceding to a Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company press release. 

Smoke was reported coming from a third-floor apartment about 5:43 a.m. Friday at 503 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn. The building was evacuated and firefighters rescued a victim from the apartment where the fire was located. 

The victim was transported by Glen Ellyn Paramedics to Loyola Medical Center.  There were no other injuries to residents or first responders.

The remainder of the building was searched and the fire extinguished shortly after 6 a.m.

The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force was called to investigate and determine the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time. 

Along with the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company crews from Addison, Carol Stream, Glenside, Bloomingdale, Lisle Woodridge, Lombard, York Center, Warrenville and Wheaton responded and assisted with the rescue and extinguishment efforts.
