Monday Apartment Fire Might Have Been Set Intentionally

Emergency personnel responded to a fire in the Windsor Lakes apartment complex around 3 a.m. Monday.

No one was injured when a fire broke out in the Windsor Lakes apartment complex early Monday. 

The Darien-Woodridge Fire Department responded to the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue to an activated fire alarm around 3 a.m., according to a Darien-Woodridge press release. Upon arrival, firefighters found "a great deal of smoke" throughout the building's hallways. 

Firefighters forced entry into several apartments before finding the source of the fire in an apartment unit. No one was home in that unit.

The fire primarily involved carpet and the apartment door and caused about $25,000 in damages, according to officials.

The fire could have been set intentionally and is still being investigated by the Darien-Woodridge Fire District and the Woodridge Police Department.

One resident fleed a smoky hallway through a first floor window. Residents were evacuated and then allowed to return to their apartments once the fire was extinguished.

Darien-Woodridge received assistance on scene or at its stations from the Downers Grove, Lemont, Pleasantview, Argonne, Lisle-Woodridge and Westmont fire departments.
