Police Investigate Attempted Strong Arm Robbery

Man approached 17-year-old girl from behind and demanded her purse and cell phone, police said.

Police are looking into the attempted strong arm robbery of a 17-year-old girl that occurred Wednesday on a foot path.

The girl was walking on a path between Abbey Court and the strip mall on the southwest corner of Lyman Avenue and 75th Street around 6:20 p.m. A man approached her from behind and demanded her purse and cell phone. 

Police said he fled in a westerly direction with the purse or phone. There was no threat of force or weapon implied, and no physical contact made.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, 5-feet-8-inches, and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The girl returned home and called police. Police checked the area but could not find the man.

The Darien Police have increased patrol activity in the area.
