Rosemont Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Starting Woodridge Apartment Fire

The woman remains in jail on $1 million bail.

A Rosemont woman charged with intentionally setting a fire at a Woodridge apartment complex has pleaded not guilty.

Maria Bustamante, 19, of Rosemont, is accused of aggravated arson and residential arson in connection to a February fire at the Windsor Lakes apartments.

During her March 19 arraignment, the judge also ordered Bustamante to undergo a psychological evaluation.

She remains held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bail.

Officials said Bustamante entered the apartment building in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue around 3 a.m. Feb. 20 and started a fire in a hallway just outside the door to one of its units.

No one was injured in the fire, though one resident fled a smoky hallway through a first-floor window. 

The fire caused about $25,000 in damages.
