Two Children Rescued from Thursday Morning Apartment Fire

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District responded to the fire around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Two children were rescued from an apartment fire Thursday morning. 

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department was notified of an emergency by way of a fire alarm in an apartment building in the 6600 block of Double Eagle Drive around 7:40 a.m., according to a press release from the department. 

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a fire in one of the apartment units. Firefighters found two children in the bedroom of the apartment and brought them to safety. The children were transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.

Jim French, bureau chief for the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department, said he did not know whether anyone else was home at the time of the fire. 

The sprinkling system in the apartment prevented the fire from spreading to any other apartment units, and the fire was under control in about five minutes.

The apartment was deemed uninhabitable. 

One emergency responder suffered a minor injury to his hand and was treated by emergency personnel at the scene. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
