Woodridge Police Announce Anti-Crime 'Night Out' 30th Anniversary

An estimated 37 million people will participate nationwide; all Woodridge residents are invited to the CRC on Aug. 6.

The following is a press release from the Woodridge Police Department:

Woodridge Police Department will be hosting a 30th Anniversary National Night Out celebration. This event will bring together local businesses and organizations in order to promote a strong and safe community united against crime. All Woodridge residents are encouraged to attend.

The National Night Out celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 6th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Community Resource Center (CRC).  The CRC is located at 8274 Janes Avenue in Woodridge, and the festivities will take place in the grassy, common area across from the CRC. Local businesses have been invited to provide food, drinks and entertainment.

National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Woodridge Police Department.  This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of this event, and over 37 million people across the country are expected to participate.

 National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts.
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This year, National Night Out and the Woodridge Police Department want  to notify and encourage citizens to sign up for Smart911, a free service that allows citizens across the U.S. to create a Safety Profile for their household that includes any information they want 9-1-1 to have in the event of an emergency.
