Chicago Tribune Endorses Ron Sandack for 81st District

"Few public officials walk the walk like Republican Sen. Ron Sandack," the Tribune reported.

The Chicago Tribune has endorsed Ron Sandack for the state representative of the 81st House District:

"Few public officials walk the walk like Republican Sen. Ron Sandackof Downers Grove," the Trib said.

"Appointed in 2010, he has declined state pension and heath care benefits and refused to participate in the scandal-ridden legislative scholarship program. He gets high marks for his work ethic — he's famous for actually reading the bills — and he's not afraid to take the heat for an unpopular vote. Mapped into the same district as Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno, he decided to run for the House instead. He's endorsed over Deborah Boyle, a registered nurse and school board member from Downers Grove."

Sandack began serving as a village commissioner for Downers Grove in 2003 and was elected mayor in 2007. He currently serves as a state senator for the 21st district, having been appointed last fall to replace Dan Cronin, who was elected DuPage County Board Chairman.

Also running for the 81st District Republican nomination is , who currently serves as the vice president of the  school board.

Including parts of Downers Grove, Darien, Lisle, , Westmont and Naperville, the 81st district constitutes half of the previous 47th district. Patricia Bellock, who currently serves the 47th district, has decided not to run for the 81st, so there is no incumbent candidate.

You can find a full list of those who have endorsed Sandack here, including:

  • Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford
  • House Minority Leader Tom Cross
  • Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno
  • Government reformer Adam Andrzejewski
  • DuPage County Board Chair Dan Cronin
  • State Senator Kirk Dillard
  • State Senator John Millner
  • State Rep Jim Durkin
  • State Rep Michael Connelly
  • Stand For Children
  • For the Good of Illinois PAC
  • Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce PAC
  • DuPage Conservatives

Tribune endorses a Republican ???? I'm shocked. They endorsed Mr. Obama in 2008 which is why that very same day that they did, I cancelled my subscription and will never renew!!!!

Liberal media picks liberal candidate. 'nough said.

I wouldn't call the Tribune a liberal paper, especially when compared to the Sun-Times. I think the Tribune's editorial board doesn't know what has gone on in Downers Grove in terms of Ron Sandack's ability to get along with political opponents, or of his ability to keep political allies in line, or the fact that someone who claims to be a fiscal conservative and pension reformer does a lot of legal work for the Teamsters. Considering that the Tribune has been a vocal proponent of fair and open government for many, many years, perhaps some e-mails about Mr. Sandack would cause the editorial board to ponder the endorsement a bit.

Who will the Trib endorse for President this year??????
Kent Frederick March 13, 2012 at 05:15 PM
If John Kass had a say, it would be Ron Paul.

Jeffrey, Tom – You have issue with The Chicago Tribune being “liberal” media? Fine. Just know this: The Trib practically CREATED the Republican party more than 150 years ago and has been its faithful steward ever since. When it endorsed Barack Obama in ’08, the editorial board did NOT take lightly the fact that it was the first time in the newspaper’s history that it endorsed a Democrat for president. … If this is enough for you to cancel your subscription and never read the Trib again, so be it. Also know this: When Abraham Lincoln was president and standard-bearer of the GOP, the Republican party’s planks in those days were of the liberal persuasion. Lincoln was most certainly NOT a conservative. So whether or not the Trib’s roots date back to conservatism or liberalism is up for debate. If it's only conservatism you want, and only conservatism you'll accept, you're aligning yourself with a ton of baggage full of out-dated philosophy that is deemed harmful by many in a 21st century society.

Oh Marty, thank you, thank you soooo much for enlightening me. You are sooo sooo smart! I guess I should just give up my out-dated conservative views. (sarcasm)

It would be a good start! ... Just helpfully pointing this out to you as you continue to be baffled by a constantly changing world. (not sarcasm)

Hey Marty, a good start would be to have those we the People elected to office to have honor and abide by the oath they took to uphold the Constitution!!! I was originally going to make an off cuff comment about "what do you call a 1,000 lawyers (progressive liberal democrats) sinking to the bottom if the ocean? .......
I.P. Daley March 14, 2012 at 07:54 PM
Tommy Boy, if you're insinuating that ONLY those who don't have "honor" and don't "uphold the Constitution" are Democrats and/or liberals, you're swinging and missing. Badly. ... The same could be -- and is -- said about conservatives. Turn off the Fox News. Unplug El Rushbo. Crawl out of your bubble and clear your mind.
