Crime Education Could be Required for Woodridge Landlords

Under a proposed change, landlords would be required to attend a crime education class conducted by the Woodridge Police Department.

Woodridge landlords could be required to attend a crime education class under a proposed change to the village's residential rental program.

“It was received positively, particularly with adding the crime free addendum to their leases,” Michael Mayes, director of the village’s economic development department, told the Bugle. “It gives them a tool to address crime that may be occurring in their rental units.”

Landlords would be required to attend the class every five years. The would conduct the class.

An owner who rents two or more multi-family units would need to obtain a license and attend the class, according to The Bugle. An owner who rents "one condo and several single-family homes" would not need to obtain a license but would need to attend the class.

Any owners with complaints would have to attend a class on the particular complaint.
