Sandack to Boyle: 'Thanks for Playing, You're Dismissed'

Check in with me while I update results, hang out with the Ron Sandack campaign and more.

10 p.m.

Ron Sandack, Republican candidate for the 81st House District race, told those assembled at Emmett'e Ale House that he "could have joined the hit parade" two weeks ago but chose not to.

The remark refers to election materials produced by the Debbie Boyle campaign.

"My opponent must think that attack pieces will do more to get her elected than espousing her own ideas and offering substance," Sandack wrote in an endorsement press release last week.

"Thankfully the public has shown they prefer substance and boldness over a stealth campaign built on negativity alone."

Sandack said it was the right decision.

"I'd rather win the right way in a tight race than win big being in the gutter, hanging out in the wrong place and not feeling good about myself," Sandack told the crowd. "And taking you all with me to that place."

He said he knew the negative remarks would resound less in Downers Grove, where he had "faith and confidence in the folks he has known and served."

But he suspects he has some winning over to do the 81st House District's other communities.

"I suspect people in the other towns do not know me as well," Sandack said. "The insinuations, innuendos and nonsense will come off like water off a duck's back in Downers Grove.

"I have more to do. I have people I've got to convince. I never shy away from hard work. It usually work out in the end."

Sandack said he doubted Debbie Boyle would call him to concede the race.

If she did, he had one message for her:

"Thanks for playing. You're dismissed."

(Debbie Boyle did call Sandack shortly after the final results were in. No word on if Sandack said those word to her.)

for the 81st House District race. Durkin is leading Reigle 80/20 in the 82nd House District.

With 18 of the 37 precincts reporting, the Woodridge electrical aggregation referendum has 54.88 percent for and 45.12 percent against.

Not much has changed, much to this reporter's chagrin. I'm camped out at Emmett's as the results trickle in.

Mayor William F. Murphy is here, as well as probably 75 other people.

7:50 p.m.

Results are trickling in. We'll start to update results pages once we get a higher number of precincts reporting. I'd say about 40 people at Emmett's Ale House right now for Sandack's election watch party.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that voter turnout is the "lowest in history" for a presidential primary.

“It’s going to be the lowest,” Langdon Neal, chairman of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, told the Tribune. “The real issue is” how low.

Election judges at reported more than 200 people had voted by 5:30 p.m. of the 1,700 registered to vote there.

There are really only 1,200 voters who would actually be able to vote at the location because the others have moved away and not notified election officials, Election Judge Harland London said.

That would put voter turnout at 12 percent with the 1,700 total registered voters and 16.67 percent with 1,200 voters.

At , 155 people had voted of the 978 registered to vote there.

Not surprisingly, the majority identified themselves as Republicans: 112 Republicans, 40 Democrats and three non-partisans completed ballots.

That would put voter turnout at Meadowview at 15.8 percent.
