Lane Closures on 75th Street Start Next Week

The closures will take place as work is done on a storm sewer construction project to be completed before the street is widened next year.

Expect lane closures on 75th Street near the starting next week.

While construction to widen and re-pave 75th Street will not begin until 2012, work on a storm sewer construction project for the street is currently underway. Notice of next week's lane closures was posted this week.

The project includes installing a main line storm sewer and outfall pipe and expanding the retention pond at the golf course.

The storm sewer project is scheduled to be completed by March 2012.

The project to widen and resurface 75th Street will affect the major road from Woodward Avenue in Woodridge to Lyman Avenue in Darien. Lyman Avenue is the road that separates the complex that houses Walmart andT.G.I. Friday’s from the strip that houses Caribou CoffeeJet Pizza and Smashburger.

Construction will go a little further than both Woodward Avenue and Lymen Avenue, said Kent Kuper, principal civil engineer for DuPage County.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, but it’s safe to say it won’t be pretty in the meantime.

At times, traffic will be funneled down to one lane in each direction of 75th Street. When the project is done, 75th Street will have three lanes in each direction between the two streets.

A lane will be added in both directions on 75th Street from Woodward Avenue east to Lyman Avenue. The existing pavement west of Lemont Road to I-355 will be widened and/or resurfaced, and the median and the intersection of 75th Street and Lemont Road will be reconstructed, according to the village.

There will be no detours and all businesses in the area will remain accessible to motorists.

Prior to the road construction phase, DuPage County will hold an open house for anyone who would like more information. Residents and businesses may also contact the DuPage County Division of Transportation at (630) 407-6900 for project information.
