Lemont Residents to Challenge Radogno, Durkin in Illinois Primary

Laura Reigle will challenge State Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) in the 82nd District, while Duane Bradley will run against Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) in the 41st District.

Two  residents are set to challenge the village's current state senator and representative in the upcoming primary election.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, all established party candidates running for state office in the March 20 primary have filed their nominating petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Lemont resident  filed her petition Monday to challenge State Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) in the 82nd District. Durkin filed his paperwork Nov. 28, which means his name will appear first on the primary ballot.

The newly drawn 82nd District includes parts of Western Springs, Lemont, Darien, Burr Ridge, Willowbrook and Homer Glen.

Durkin, the current assistant minority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives,  in July. He has served in the 82nd District since 2006. In November 2010, he was elected to a two-year term after defeating Democratic challenger Matthew Mostowik.

The Illinois primary will mark  first bid for state office. Earlier this year, she unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the  Board of Education during the April 5 consolidated election.

Also filing Monday was Lemont resident Duane Bradley, who will challenge Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) in the 41st District.

Radogno  in the newly drawn 41st District, which includes portions of Burr Ridge, Darien, Downers Grove, Homer Glen, Indian Head Park, LaGrange, Lemont, Lisle, Naperville, Western Springs, Willowbrook and Woodridge.

She has served in the Illinois Senate since 1997, and has represented the 41st District since 2003. Radogno is currently serving her second term as the leader of the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus.

Radogno also filed her nominating petition Nov. 28, meaning she will appear first on the ballot.

Like Reigle, Bradley unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the District 113A Board of Education earlier this year. He has previously served as a member of the Bromberek School District Board of Education, according to the he supplied Patch in March.

Those seeking a seat in Congress will have to wait a bit longer to file because of a GOP lawsuit challenging the state's newly drawn congressional boundaries. Last month, a U.S. district courtordered that the filing date be pushed back. The congressional filing period is now Friday, Dec. 23 through Tuesday, Dec. 27.
