Mayoral Candidate Withdraws Petition, Will Still Run for Trustee

Woodridge village trustee Joseph Kagann announced last week that he was withdrawing his petition to run for mayor. Instead, he'll seek re-election as a trustee.

A Woodridge village trustee withdrew his mayoral bid last week, but he'll still seek re-election as a trustee.

Joseph Kagann, a trustee since 2003, first filed for both the mayoral and trustee races but will now only run for the latter.

"It is not required that a reason be provided for the withdrawal, however ... candidates cannot run for two offices," deputy village clerk Jack Knight said in an email.

Kagann, who was born and raised in Woodridge, is the son of former Mayor Joel Kagann.

His withdrawal leaves four candidates vying for the mayoral seat: current trustee Gina Cunningham-Picek, as well as Gregory Abbott, Mike Krucek and Ferenc Vandor.

There are three trustee’s seats up for election this year, and Kagann will try to retain one of them. Also running are current trustee Pam Beavers, as well as Louis Wardin, Joe Schager, Sue Burtnette and Tim Goodwin.

Eileene Nystrom was the only person to file for the office of village clerk in Woodridge.

I am curious as to how he was able to file for two races in the first place. The Village should have precluded him from doing so, or making him choose up front, otherwise lets all apply for all the positions and which ever one we can win, then we go with that -
