Prescribed Burns Scheduled for Numerous Parks This Spring

The Woodridge Park District will be conducting controlled burns at about 14 parks between Feb. 6 and May 31. Find out where the burns will be and what the reasoning is.

The Woodridge Park District will be conducting prescribed burns in numerous parks this spring, according to an announcement on the district's website.

The burns will take place between Feb. 6 and May 31, when weather conditions are suitable.

Prescribed burns are part of a natural areas management process and will be conducted by trained Park District staff. All burns are supervised by an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager. Controlled burns are a management technique used for improving site conditions for high quality native plants while reducing invasive weeds.

During the prescribed burn, smoke conditions will occur, but shall be kept to a minimum. Should any of your family members have health situations that may be affected or irritated by these conditions, contact the Park District at 630-353-3300 so that it may properly plan to avoid any problems.

Prescribed burns are planned for the following parks:
• Village Greens Golf Course
• Mending Wall
• Echo Point
• Orchard Hill
• Ides Grove East
• Ides Grove West
• Lake Harriet
• Hawthorn Hill Woods
• Lake Carleton
• Windy Point
• Triangle
• Westminster
• Vicente Outlots
• Farmingdale Unit #25
