Village Takes Next Step to Bring Senior Housing to Woodridge

If zoning approvals and necessary financing are obtained, construction is expected to begin in the winter of 2013.

Members of the Village Board approved July 26 a sale and redevelopment agreement with The Alden Foundation outlining the development of an independent living senior housing development with between 90 and 94 units in the village of .

Officials said the agreement marks a significant milestone in providing senior housing to Woodridge residents, which has long been one of the village’s top priorities.

“Woodridge residents have made it clear that they want opportunities to remain within the community as their housing needs change and we are pleased to be one step closer to fulfilling this very important Village goal,” said Mayor William Murphy. “We look forward to working with The Alden Foundation to accomplishing this goal.”

For the past six months, village officials have been working through a selection process to select a developer to own, develop and manage a senior housing facility on the village-owned 3.4 acre parcel located on Janes Avenue, directly south of Janes Avenue Park.

The Village Board supported May 24 the Senior Housing Selection Committee’s recommendation to select The Alden Foundation.

The committee, consisting of two village trustees and two Plan Commissioners, cited The Alden Foundation’s commitment to seniors, extensive experience, community involvement, overall quality and maintenance of existing developments, continuation of care offered to their residents,  and ability to maintain a long-existing property as just a few of the items that made The Alden Foundation the recommended developer.

The agreement approved by the Village Board July 26th lays out the parcel sale price of $300,000, project completion deadlines, and development parameters that require The Alden Foundation to construct a four-story, 96,000 square feet building that will provide between 90 and 94 independent living senior apartments.

With the sale and redevelopment agreement in place, The Alden Foundation will proceed with the village’s zoning approval process for the project, which is expected to take approximately three months to complete.

If The Alden Foundation is successful in obtaining zoning approvals and necessary financing, construction is expected to begin in the winter of 2013.
