District 68 Unveils Strategic Planning Goals, Objectives for the Next Five Years

The goals and objectives are categorized by curriculum and instruction, technology, personnel, communication and finance.

unveiled its strategic planning goals and objectives Tuesday night.

The process to develop these goals and objectives began last April with SWOT surveys, where strategic planning committee members identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The district organized focus groups and asked for feedback on an online survey.

The strategic planning committee, which was made up of 22 people, took that information and worked with district administrators to craft goals and objectives under five main categories: curriculum and instruction, technology, personnel, communication and finance.

Specific action plans will be created for each objective.

curriculum & instruction

Goal: District 68 will further develop our comprehensive plan to ensure that all students achieve their social, emotional and academic potential.

Objectives:

  1. Annually, the curriculum and instruction department will conduct a survey of all district staff regarding educational and cultural opportunities, resources and partnerships that enhance the curriculum.
  2. During the 2011-2012 school year, the curriculum and instruction department will convene a committee to conduct a study to determine how to best utilize technology to measure and report student progress and increase parental involvement.
technology

Goal: District 68 will continue to improve the use of technology to enhance our educational programs.

Objectives:

  1. Annually, the technology department will provide all instructional staff with comprehensive training to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum.
  2. During the 2011-2012 school year, the technology department will develop guidelines for the appropriate use of educational and social networking sites for students, parents, teachers and other district staff.
personnel

Goal: District 68 will continue to maintain our rigorous standard of excellence by recruiting, employing and supporting high-quality staff.

Objectives:

  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the personnel department will conduct a study to determine and assess the staffing levels and services required to meet the needs of our student demographics.
  2. Annually, the personnel department will increase professional development opportunities to create a culturally sensitive staff.
  3. Annually, the personnel department will recruit high-quality minority, bilingual and male candidates.
communication

Goal: District 68 will provide consistent and effective communication to all community stakeholders.

Objectives:

  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the personnel department will conduct an audit of all current communication methods and means to determine their effectiveness.
finance

Goal: District 68 will strive to maintain the most efficient and effective use of district funds.

Objectives:

  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the business office will develop a fund balance policy for board adoption.
  2. Annually, the business office will seek to improve administrative efficiencies to help reduce costs and redirect funds to the classroom.
  3. Annually, the business office will aggressively pursue all existing and potential revenue sources which may be available at the local, state and federal levels.

Goal: District 68 will investigate opportunities that may enhance our food service program.

Objectives:

  1. During the 2011-2012 school year, the business office will review the food service program to determine if alternate viable options are available.
