District 99 Holiday Concerts and Art Shows This Week

Enjoy a variety of music and art by talented local high-schoolers (for free!). Events at North start Tuesday. Events at South start Thursday.

schools are preparing for their upcoming holiday concerts and art shows. The combined concerts will feature more than 1,000 student musicians and visual artists presenting for an anticipated audience of 3,000 members of the community.

The public is cordially invited to attend all of the events. Admission is free.

Holiday Concerts

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, will host its “Holiday Mosaic Concert” in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium at North High School. Attendees may choose from one of two performances: 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., will host its “Holiday Concert” in the Main Gymnasium at South High School.

Concerts at both schools will feature a variety of musicians, including bands, choirs and the District 99 orchestra, as well as a variety of chamber music ensembles. Each concert will last approximately one hour. 

Both evenings will conclude with a combined rendition of Handel's “Hallelujah!”, a tradition in Downers Grove since 1929. 

Art Shows 

Each high school will also showcase the visual artwork of student artists next week, including works in ceramics, digital photography, painting and drawing and more.

At North High School, the “Holiday Mosaic Art Show” will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the North High Main Street Lobby and continue throughout the week. A reception will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

At South High School, the “Winter Art Show” opening will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the South High Events Foyer, and run through Sunday, Dec. 11.

“Between the sights in the foyers and the sounds in the venues, those who attend are guaranteed to be moved by the artistic excellence of our young artists in District 99,” said North High’s Fine Arts Chair Brayer Teague.

The community is welcome to attend. Admission is free. 

“We look forward to welcoming community members into our schools during this joyous time of year,” said South High’s Fine Arts Chair Glenn Williams.
