Downers Grove South Coach Chosen for All-American Coaching Staff

A coach from  in Downers Grove has been officially selected to be part of the coaching staff for the 2012 McDonald’s All American Girls Basketball Game. Ellen O’Brien, head girls basketball coach at South High, was selected to serve as one of just eight outstanding high school coaches from across the country.

Each year, the McDonald’s All American Games feature top high school basketball boys and girls players from around the country, who participate in an East Vs. West All-Star Game to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Of the 24 girl basketball players, three are from Illinois this year. McDonald’s All American alumni include players such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Derrick Rose and Sylvia Fowles.

The game will be played at the United Center at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Tickets are available by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.

“I’m thrilled to be selected to coach and participate in the game and events,” says O’Brien. “This is truly a dream team, and a dream come true for any player or coach.”

“We’re proud that Ellen was selected for this prestigious and national event,” says South High Athletic Director Randy Konstans. “Being selected as part of the McDonald’s all-star team is to be part of the nation’s most elite high school athletes and coaches, and Ellen certainly fits into that category.”
