Downers Grove South Wins Speech Sectional

DGS takes first, DGN takes second in Saturday's competition.

The and Speech teams are headed to state.

Downers Grove South took first place in its sectional Saturday with 66 points. Downers Grove North took second with 48. Hinsdale Central High School came in third with 47 points.

Students are ranked in three preliminary rounds; those scores determine the final rounds. Students in performance in the round perform just once. Each ranking corresponds to a certain number of points. The team with the most points wins the tournament.

Downers Grove South students qualified for state in 12 of the 14 individual events and performance in the round, in which students perform a 15-minute play. Individual events range from poetry reading and duet acting to informational speaking and original comedy.
