Jefferson Girls Soccer Team, Boys Volleyball Team Undefeated

See the Wolverines are doing in soccer, softball, volleyball, swimming and track and field.

From the track and field team recruiting more than 100 students to compete to undefeated girls soccer and boys volleyball teams, get a spring athletic update from . 

Girls Soccer:
The Lady Wolverine Soccer Team is currently undefeated with a 6-0 record. The team has defeated Old Quarry, Lakeview, Butler, Gower, Westview Hills and Lisle. The girls are led by mid-fielder Grace Maletich and forwards Lexi Dimovski and Simone Gardner. Lexi and Simone have both scored over 15 goals each in their first 6 games. The girls soccer program is coached by Jen Riskus and Gail Hartig. The girls are currently in first place in the SDEAA Conference and have three more games to win before claiming a first place trophy.

Boys Soccer:
The Boys Soccer Team is coached by Glenn Mueller and is off to a wonderful start with a record of 4-0-2. They have wins over Butler, Gower, Westview Hills and Lisle. They have two ties against Old Quarry and Lakeview. The boys team is led by eighth-graders Jason Santiago, Riley Heavey and Jack Laraia. If the boys extend their four-game win streak to seven and beat Eisenhower Junior High, they will become conference champions.

Girls Softball:
The Girls Softball Team had a rough start to the season, dropping four close games to Westmont, Cass, Gower and Lakeview. However, under the strong leadership of Coach Leslie Dehn and players Kelly McLean, Nilah Naponiello, Katie Rock and Erin Meyers the girls were able to earn their first win of the season over Westview Hills. The girls have 3 games left before they enter the SDEAA Conference tournament on May 12 at Lemont High School. 

Swimming:
The Jefferson swim program had very low numbers this season but that did not discourage Coach Joe Wechman and his team from giving it their all at the SDEAA conference meet April 17 at . Despite having a team of 4 boys and 13 girls, the Wolverines were able to secure sixth place for the boys team and fourth forthe girls. The girls just fell short of the third place trophy by a mere 4 points. Thomas Canada, Michael Colon, Donny Knapp and Kyle Escoto each swam four events and showed true heart and perseverance throughout the meet, defeating 7 of the 13 teams. The girls were led by Madelyn Anderson, Grace Maletich, Julie Beierwaltes, Kirsten Hill and Trisha Garcia.

Boys Volleyball:
The Boys Volleyball team has commanded a strong presence in the SDEAA Conference. Led by Coach Troy Johnson and players Tyler Kourus, Kyle Chisholm, Frankie Gordy and Dylan Kaczmarek, the team has earned an undefeated 3-0 record and the top spot in the SDEAA Conference. The boys have wins over Eisenhower, Gower, and Cass. Our boys have two games left in the regular season before the conference tournament on Saturday, May 5. 

Track and Field:
The Jefferson Track team has recruited more than 100 athletes this season! Led by coaches Troy Michalek and Maggie Hock, the Wolverines have sprinted, hurdled, thrown, and jumped their way to success so far. On April 18, the track team traveled to Jane Adams Middle School in Bolingbrook to compete against Jane Adams and Oak Prarie. Juankeem Finley, Zach Hogan, Jaida Green and Trisha Garcia led the team to a second place overall finish. The boys and girls’ teams will compete in the SDEAA Conference Tournament on Tuesday, May 8.
