Sipley, Jefferson Don't Make AYP

Two of District 68's seven schools did not make adequate yearly progress during the 2010-2011 school year, district officials announced Monday.

Of Woodridge Distict 68’s seven schools, and did not make AYP during the 2010-2011 school year.

While both schools' overall student population hit the goal of 85 percent meeting state standards, each school had certain subgroups which did not meet that goal.

Students can fit into 10 subgroups: black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander, multiracial, limited English proficiency, students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged.

For a subgroup to count toward AYP, there must be 45 students in the grades taking the ISAT in a certain category. A student can count in multiple subgroups.

Sipley did not meet state standards in its Hispanic subgroup, a new subgroup for the school. Last year there were not 45 students in this category, and so it did not count toward the school's AYP. Jefferson did not meet state standards in the black, students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged subgroups.

Sipley was the only school which did not. In its economically disadvantaged subgroup, 54.7 percent of students met standards for reading and 62.3 percent met standards for math. The goal was 77.5 percent.

This year, 68.8 percent met standards in reading and 68.8 met standards in math, meeting the school’s safe harbor targets. These lowered targets are put in place to give credit for school growth.

In the graphs below, only the subgroups represented at Sipley or Jefferson, respectively, are shown.
