Superintendent Brendel Says Goodbye to District 68

Jerry Brendel attended his last school board meeting as superintendent Monday night. 

Brendel will retire July 1 after 20 years in the district, first as assistant superintendent of business and then as superintendent. His successor is current Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Cathy Skinner. 

Brendel said the 20 years given to him in District 68 were "a fabulous time" of his life. 

"I've enjoyed every minute of coming to the office," he said. "I couldn't ask for a better place to be. I've been in education 38 years and half of those were spent in this district. There's a reason for that. There are a lot of great people here."

Several new administrators will start in District 68 July 1. The district will welcome new principals for and , as well as a new assistant principal at Jefferson, a new assistant superintendent for personnel and a new assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.

The school board approved a contract Monday night for Greg Wolcott, current director assessment and initiatives for the district, to be assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. 

It's a new title for the district. Wolcott will take over for Rebecca Surber, who is retiring as the assistant superintendent for curriculum. Wolcott said the new position will combine his current position and Surber's position.
