Two District 99 Students Named National Achivement Finalists

The students are now in the running to receive a National Achievement scholarship.

Two District 99 students have been named finalists in the 2011 National Achivement Scholarship Program, which recognizes outstanding Black American high school students.

South High Senior Joseph Bayer and North High Senior Abigail Gardner are now in the running for a $2,500 scholarship. Of the 170,000 students who entered the program, about 1,600 were chosen as semifinalists in September.

About 1,300 students have been named finalists, and 800 will receive a scholarship. The academic achievement program is part in part on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
